How do I transfer my domain to a new website/template on Webflow?

TL;DR
  • Create a new Webflow project, design or import your content, and add your custom domain under Hosting settings.
  • Update your domain registrar's DNS records with Webflow's A and CNAME values, set a default domain, publish the site, and optionally remove the domain from the old project.

To use your existing domain with a new website or template in Webflow, you'll need to update domain settings within your new Webflow project. The domain itself stays registered with your provider, but you reassign it to point to your new site.

1. Set Up Your New Webflow Project

  • Create a new project by choosing a new template or starting from scratch.
  • Design or import your content into the new Webflow project as needed.

2. Add Your Domain to the New Project

  • Go to Project Settings of the new site.
  • Click on the Hosting tab.
  • Scroll to the Custom Domains section.
  • Enter your domain name (e.g., yoursite.com) and click Add.
  • Webflow will generate A record and CNAME details for your domain.

3. Update DNS Settings With Your Domain Provider

  • Log in to your domain registrar (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap).
  • Remove any old A records or CNAMEs pointing to the old Webflow site.
  • Add these Webflow-required DNS records:
  • A Records: (a) 75.2.70.75, (b) 99.83.190.102
  • CNAME Record for www: proxy-ssl.webflow.com
  • If you're using a subdomain (like blog.yourdomain.com), only update DNS for that subdomain.

4. Set Default Domain and Publish

  • Back in Webflow’s Hosting tab, once DNS verifies (may take minutes to hours), set a Default Domain (typically "www.yoursite.com").
  • Click Publish and select both the Webflow.io domain and your custom domain.

5. Remove Domain From Old Site (Optional)

  • To avoid DNS conflicts, go to the old site’s Project Settings > Hosting, and remove the custom domain.
  • This ensures it’s fully managed under the new project.

Summary

To connect your domain to a new Webflow website or template, add the domain to your new project's hosting settings, update DNS records at your registrar, and publish. Then optionally remove the domain from the old project to avoid conflicts.
