To unlink a nav bar from a symbol in Webflow so you can edit it independently on subsequent pages, you can follow these steps:
1. Select the nav bar symbol: In the Designer, navigate to the page where the nav bar symbol is located. Select the symbol by clicking on it in the Navigator panel or directly on the canvas.
2. Detach the symbol instance: In the top right corner of the screen, you'll find the symbol name with an icon next to it. Click on the icon and select "Detach from symbol." This action will turn the symbol into a regular element.
3. Apply changes: Once detached, you can now freely edit the nav bar on this specific page without affecting other pages. Make any changes you need, such as altering the layout, adding or removing elements, or modifying the styling.
4. Sync changes across pages (optional): If you want to sync the changes you made to the detached nav bar to all other pages where the symbol is used, right-click the nav bar element and choose "Update symbol." This will update the original symbol, propagating the changes to all other instances.
Note that detaching a symbol removes its connection to the parent symbol, so any changes made to the original symbol won't be reflected on detached instances. If you later decide to re-establish the link with the symbol, you can do so by selecting the detached nav bar element and clicking on the "Make a symbol" icon in the top right corner of the screen.
By detaching a nav bar symbol, you gain the flexibility to customize it independently on subsequent pages while still having the option to update it across multiple pages if needed.
