If you unlink a symbol in Webflow, the remaining instances of that symbol on other pages will no longer exist as symbols. Unlinking a symbol essentially breaks the connection between the instances and the original symbol, so each instance becomes its own unique element.
In your case, if you unlink the footer symbol and copy it to create a new version for a different language, the original linked footers will no longer be connected to the new symbol. They will remain as individual elements without the ability to update them all at once when making changes to the original symbol.
However, there is a solution to achieve what you're looking for. Instead of unlinking the symbol, you can duplicate the symbol and then make changes to the duplicated version. This way, you'll have two separate symbols that are independent of each other.
To do this, follow these steps:
1. Select the footer symbol in the Symbols panel.
2. Right-click on the symbol and choose "Duplicate Symbol".
3. A duplicated copy of the symbol will be created.
4. Rename the duplicated symbol to indicate the different language version.
5. Now, you can make the necessary changes to the duplicated symbol without affecting the original symbol or its instances.
By duplicating the symbol and making changes to the duplicated version, you'll have independent symbols for different language versions while keeping the original symbol intact for other pages.
