If a symbol is stuck on your Webflow page, it's likely still placed on the canvas, or controlled via the Navigator panel. Here's how to safely remove it.
1. Locate the Symbol on the Page
- Check the Navigator panel on the left to see the element structure.
- Symbols appear with a green label in the Navigator.
- If it's hard to find, click into possible sections or div blocks until the symbol highlights on the canvas.
2. Select and Remove the Symbol
- Click the symbol directly on the canvas or select it in the Navigator.
- Press Delete or Backspace on your keyboard.
- This only removes the instance of the symbol from the page; the symbol itself still exists in the Symbols panel.
3. Delete the Symbol from the Symbols Panel (Optional)
If you want to completely remove the symbol definition from your project:
- Open the Symbols panel (press Shift + A or click the + Add panel, then select Symbols).
- Hover over the symbol you want to delete.
- Click the three-dot menu (•••) and select Delete.
- If the symbol is still used on any page, Webflow will warn you before deleting.
4. Double Check Persistent Symbols
- If new symbols keep appearing due to Templates or Symbols being used in Navigation/Footers across multiple pages, check your Master components.
- You may need to remove the symbol from a symbolized section (like a footer block) and Unlink it first.
Summary
To remove a stuck symbol in Webflow: use the Navigator to select and delete it from the canvas, and if needed, delete it entirely from the Symbols panel. Always check for shared instances before permanent deletion.
