Is there a way to delete unused assets in Webflow's library?

TL;DR
  • Manually review each asset in the Webflow Designer’s Assets panel to check for usage, since Webflow does not indicate asset use automatically.
  • Delete unused assets one-by-one, using Webflow’s prompt to avoid deleting in-use files, and optionally use third-party tools or custom audits for deeper analysis.

Webflow does not currently offer a native feature to bulk-delete unused assets directly, but you can manage unused assets with a manual review process.

1. Understand Webflow’s Asset Manager Limitations

  • Webflow’s Asset Manager shows all uploaded images, videos, documents, and other files.
  • It does not automatically track whether an asset is actively used in your project (pages, symbols, CMS, or styles).

2. Manually Identify Unused Assets

  • Open the Designer, then go to the Assets panel on the left sidebar.
  • Hover over each asset. If a file is in use, Webflow does not show any usage information.
  • If you're unsure whether an asset is used:
  • Search your pages, symbols, and CMS items manually.
  • Consider exporting CMS content or using the Webflow API to audit references (advanced).

3. Delete Assets One-by-One

  • In the Assets panel, click the gear icon next to an asset and select Delete.
  • Webflow will prompt you if the asset is currently in use—helping to avoid accidental deletion.
  • Unfortunately, there is no bulk delete option in the interface.

4. Use Third-Party Tools for Auditing (Optional)

  • Tools like Relume, Finsweet’s Webflow Enhancer, or browser automation scripts can help audit and document asset usage.
  • These solutions require external setup and may not have full coverage.

Summary

Webflow does not offer an automatic or bulk method to delete unused assets. You'll need to manually review and delete assets via the Assets panel. Use hover info and in-use prompts to avoid removing important files.
